How is it done?
We often get asked how we do that. How is a photo manipulated so that it appears to be a bubble in which viewers can virtually immerse themself into the photo and see all and everything as they would in real life.
The technology is called spherical photography.
| Which Technology do we use: We use special fish eye photo lenses which give us 180° view of the object or landscape we like to photograph. We mostly use high resolution digital cameras. They are especially good for web based and low to medium resolution size bubble photos where a fast download is required. The great advantage is that we can process photos without getting a film to a lab for developing. | | |
| | Working with professional laptop computers we are able to process pictures on site and even transfer them from wherever we are directly to the web. We also burn a copy of the photos including the the html code and instructions on to a CD for our customers as backup. | | Extra High Resolution Photos: At special occasions where there is a lot of detail or wide open landscapes required, which need to be transferred onto media like CD Rom at a very high resolution for full screen presentations, multimedia tours, product or premises presentation, we will use 35mm cameras. Even though that this technology gives far better results the drawback is that the turnover time for production is much longer as well the costs for a project is far higher. | That's how we take Photos: After a point of view is chosen by our customers we mount the camera onto a tripod which is fitted with a special swivel head. This equipment allows us to rotate the camera exactly 180° from one side to the other. We then take two photos from both sides of the tripod visible. As a safety measure we take another two photos for backup. These 180° fisheye lens photos are called hemispheres. |

| | What happens after the Photos are taken: The next step is the transfer too and the processing of the pictures on the laptop computer. That is when the really tricky work starts. The hemispheres have to be manipulated and worked over so colour, shades and lines in features and contours match. Once this is done the two halves get stitched up electronically by special software and are ready to be placed online or onto CD Rom. | |

| What is a LADU Tour: It is possible to include links into any bubble view photo. This links can be to other bubble view photos, other web pages, normal photos, sound commentary, Text Files or even executable files. The possibilities are sheer endless. In linking several bubble view photos together, a virtual tour of premises, places or even vehicles like cars and boats can be created. Viewers click hotspots in the pictures to access the next photo. | But that's not all, wait there is more. Every bubble photo can be underlined with music or comments. And last but not least it is possible to animate the movement of a bubble photo and make it appear like a video to the viewer. What for you might ask. In comparison to show everything visible of a given point to a viewer using video and then streaming it over the internet still takes a long download time, while a round view photo will not take much longer than 30 seconds over an average fast internet connection. |
